The Camino Trail: Lorgrono- Santiago de Compostela

This year the Spine Ride will be moving to a new country as the team takes on the Camino Trail, which spans across the northern border of Spain.

The Camino Trail is a network of routes which lead to the shrine of St James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It has become a famous pilgrimage for people across the world, not only due to it’s religious roots, but also due to the stunning scenery and beautiful locations across the route.

In total, our team of 10 riders, including father and son, Adam and Jordan Wilkey, will be cycling 700 kilometres and climbing 9,000 metres in 6 days, all to raise awareness for World Spine Care. You can check out the ride profile day by day below.

What is World Spine Care?

World Spine Care is a charity which seeks to bring Over the course of a year, as much as 72% of the population worldwide will have a bout of back pain, the implications of which can be particularly devastating for populations that depend on manual labour for survival.

Populations in under-serviced areas of the world, especially rural populations, often have limited access to conventional healthcare resources to care for spinal conditions. Most are currently treated by traditional healers or in hospitals where they receive pain/anti-inflammatory medication only.

World Spine Care seeks to remedy this by providing support to low-income-countries through offering training programmes, providing space and equipment and educating populations on how to live with greater vitality and health.

As a volunteer for World Spine Care, Adam has spent recent years travelling to India, Nepal, Botswana, Ghana, among other countries, to support the efforts of this great organisation.
The Spine Ride was a way of both promoting awareness of World Spine Care, whilst also seeking to raise funds to allow this charity to keep functioning and supporting its benefactors around the world.
